De Smart Communication Module (SCM) is een mastergateway die geschikt is voor alle Zimmer IO-Link-componenten. De SCM kan twee apparaten besturen met zijn twee kanalen en biedt functioneel de directe omzetting van IO-Link naar digitale I/O. Dit maakt het mogelijk IO-Link-apparaten in een digitale infrastructuur te integreren en de uitgebreide reeks functies van het IO-Link-apparaat nagenoeg volledig te benutten.

Toepassingsvoorbeeld
De SCM wordt geïnstalleerd in de robotschakelkast, waar hij rechtstreeks communiceert met de robotsturing via zijn digitale I/O. Aan de grijperzijde worden de 5 pinnen van IO-Link rechtstreeks op de SCM aangesloten door middel van een externe of, indien beschikbaar, interne kabel.
