Compact clamping element for pneumatic cylinders

New CBPS series expands Zimmer Group’s portfolio

With the new CBPS series, Zimmer Group is expanding its portfolio with compact clamping and braking elements for pneumatic cylinders. The product line enables safe clamping, holding, and controlled braking of piston rods, thus providing a significant safety gain for applications with vertical or moving loads.

In contrast to conventional clamping elements, which are often designed exclusively for static holding tasks, the CBPS series features a true braking function. This allows movements to be reliably decelerated in a controlled manner and loads to be held safely in the event of a pressure drop, machine stop, or malfunction. The holding force is at least twice the force of the pneumatic cylinder used.

The elements, which can be mounted directly on standard cylinders according to ISO 15552 as well as on compact cylinders according to ISO 21287, impress with their compact design and standardized interfaces. This allows them to be integrated into both new and existing machine concepts with minimal design effort. Sensors for detecting the states “clamping open” and “clamping closed” additionally facilitate integration into the machine control system.

With a service life of five million static clamping cycles and up to 2,000 dynamic braking cycles, the CBPS series is suitable for demanding industrial applications. Thanks to safety certification in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13849-1/-2, it is also designed for safety-relevant applications.

The new CBPS series thus offers mechanical and plant engineers a compact solution to increase process and machine safety, reliably prevent uncontrolled movements, and at the same time minimize the installation space and integration effort.

Product highlights at a glance:

  • Compact design: no interfering contours in height and width, ideal for confined installation spaces.
  • High clamping force at low pressure: operating pressure of 4.0 bar and a holding force of at least twice the force of the pneumatic cylinder.
  • Long service life: designed for continuous industrial use with 5 million static and 2,000 dynamic cycles.
  • Braking and holding: Declaration of conformity and certification according to DIN EN ISO 13849-1/-2 for maximum machine safety.
  • Simple integration: Standard piston rods or shafts with tolerances (f8/g8/h7), sensor query “clamping open/closed” possible, interface for easy connection to pneumatic cylinders.
  • Wide range of applications: suitable for typical industrial environments at temperatures between -10 °C and +70 °C and protected from contamination thanks to the integrated wiper.
